Mr. Lacy

noted that at the moment there was no procedure in place to address the 2 Groundwater Advisory Committee April 28, 2014 problem, but the group could act to appoint a temporary replacement for the current meeting.

Mr. Hafen

presented information on the water treatment plants and the capacity that is available for future growth. He explained how wastewater is treated and absorbed back into the aquifer through the use of RIB’s. Of the 100,000 plus gallons of treated effluent that is injected back into the ground every day, none has ever risen to the surface. Upon questioning by committee members, Mr. Hafen revealed that he did not know exactly the amount of water owned by PUC that is currently being utilized. He noted that the majority of their customers adhere to the water conservation policies set by the utility district. There were other questions asked by members regarding specific areas serviced by PUC. There no further questions from the committee nor were there any comments from the public.

related that he had given a presentation to a legislative committee that oversees water districts in Nevada since they had expressed interest in what this committee was doing. B. Oz Wichman – Diamond Valley Report

Mr. Wichman

related that he had attended a presentation by the DWR in Diamond Valley on February 25th of this year. He noted that Diamond Valley is an agricultural community that is also over-pumping their water resources. They are still in the process of forming a committee to address the problem. One issue of note was that senior water right holders would not be affected by a critical management designation. He encouraged this committee to continue to work together in a spirit of cooperation as more things can be accomplished in this manner. He stressed that the DWR does not want to regulate by priority, but it is a possibility. Mr. Wichman noted that there are a number of water related legislative items up for discussion during the next legislative session. stated that he wants input from the committee in formulating a plan of action for the workshop. Wendy Barnett emphasized that all ideas must be put on the table. Joe Leising, formerly with the SNWA, offered to give a presentation regarding Aquifer Storage and Recovery in the Las Vegas Valley. It was decided that he would give a presentation during the next meeting on May 22, 2014.

felt that the agenda Item for the workshop should be reviewed by the DA’s office prior to publishing to be sure that everything was in compliance with open meeting law. Structuring of the workshop was discussed. 4 Groundwater Advisory Committee April 28, 2014
