Commissioner Schinhofen

opened the emergency meeting. Brian Kunzi said Pam Webster advised him late Friday afternoon that the Pahrump Town Board was proposing several long-term contracts for town employees. They were trying to amend contracts that expired in 2012 and add two additional employees onto long-term contracts, either two or five years in length with extensive severance packages. That caused a great deal of concern with the impact this would have on the town particularly since it was exceeding the terms of office effective January 5, 2015.

Mr. Kunzi

advised this was the on the agenda for tomorrow night’s town board meeting, which gave very little time to react, and the question was whether or not the Commissioners wanted to authorize any action by him to obtain a restraining order against the town from entering into such contracts that exceeded their term of office to get some remedy from the courts prior to tomorrow’s town board meeting.

Commissioner Carbone

made a motion to instruct the District Attorney to take legal action to stop the town from being able to write contracts beyond their term limit; seconded by Commissioner Wichman; 4 yeas. For the record, Mr. Kunzi stated this was an emergency given the fact that when it was discovered late Friday there were not three working days to post an agenda to hold this meeting prior to the Tuesday town board meeting. Commissioner Schinhofen also noted the cost to the citizens and agreed that something needed to be done.
